Art and Photography

The photographer and image-maker taking over the alternative music scene.
Reece Owen

If you don’t know the name Reece Owen, you will definitely recognise his otherworldly images. Having graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2019, the London-based photographer has taken over the alternative music scene with his surreal and futuristic works that take the viewer into hyperreal worlds, with subjects ranging from Bree Runway to FKA twigs, Maisie Williams and Sega Bodega.

Owen’s work for Gay Times saw the image maker transport queer icons Bimini, Jade Thirlwall and Munroe Burgdorf into abstract cyberscapes, while a recent collab with artist MugQueens sees him embark on his very own digital anthology series. His intricate storylines are achieved by building layers upon layers of augmented imagery, breathing life into bionic warriors and reptilian horror subjects alike. Whether it’s pulling inspiration from horror movies, myths or surrealist painters like Max Ernst, Owen works with a tight-knit team of CGI and SFX artists to bring seemingly unachievable concepts to life.
