Performance

The multidisciplinary artist and movement director who is drawing on his Senegalese-Gambian heritage for inspiration.
Yagamoto

Born in Sweden and raised in Essex, Abdourahman Njie, best known as Yagamoto, is a 27-year-old multidisciplinary artist and movement director. Currently a lecturer at University for the Creative Arts in Rochester, Yagamoto studied acting, improvisation and physical theatre at college in Southend before getting scouted as a model.

Besides learning to embody different characters in front of the camera, Yagamoto draws on his Senegalese-Gambian heritage for inspiration, and has gone on to create movement and choreography for Pharrell x adidas Originals, Louis Vuitton, Naomi Campbell for Self Portrait, Off-White, Dazed, British Vogue and Calvin Klein.

With a bold, diverse and free-flowing approach to choreography and a unique point of view Yagamoto pieces are easy to recognise. In his work, the energy of a scene comes alive in the smallest nuances. Speaking to Browns Fashion about a collaboration for Stone Island, the choreographer said: “Dance helps me change perspectives and narratives of people around me. Especially in the society we live in, there are so many stories to tell.”
