If there’s anything we’ve come to learn from Copenhagen Fashion Week, it’s that there’s no singular meaning to Scandi style. For AW23, as designers employed CPHFW’s new 18-point sustainability action plan to subvert the eco-fashion rulebook, audience-members continued to challenge Nordic-wear as we know it as they paraded across Denmark’s capital, kicking off another hectic fashion season.
As lensed by photographer Eseniya Araslanova, Copenhagen’s showgoers leaned into mis-matched, eclectic styles with hot pink feathered tops layered-up over dress shirts and ties, tartan mini-skirts tucked over graffiti-printed floral trousers, and 70s-style oversized fur coats paired with metallic pants. Elsewhere, guests channeled darker, Tumblr-core style through punky all-leather looks, Chopova Lowena skirts worn with chunky lace-up shoes, and Matty Healy-worthy suiting.
That’s not to say that the signature Scandinavian look was not on display. This time, however, wrap-around scarves were supersized and draped like blankets, minimalist suiting was updated with hand-crocheted patchwork, knitwear was layered and paired with statement boots, and denim came patterned or stitched-up with playful embroidery.
