“In the age of the internet, we can take inspiration from the pop culture of the past and fuse it with modernity to extend our creative concepts.”
OOO-Ing Studio

Recall any of the hottest (and weirdest) hair trends of recent months and you can bet OOO-ing Studio had something to do with it. Based in Taichung City, Taiwan, the salon was founded in 2019 by art director Light Liou and hairstylist May Wang, who also invited Wang’s fellow hairstylist Wesley Wei to join the team early on. OOOing Studio’s viral creations, featuring intricate and highly experimental cuts and colours, have gone on to influence hair trends the world over, earning collabs with the likes of Heaven, Farfetch and Sun Buddies

Case in point: following on from 2020’s popular ‘hime’ haircut, it was OOO-ing Studio’s playful jellyfish cuts that propelled the style, once popular in 00s Taiwan, back into the limelight. Meanwhile their innovative use of airbrush and tie-dye has garnered 1000s of likes online, helping to throw open colour trends to a world of new techniques.

“In the age of the internet, we can take inspiration from the pop culture of the past and fuse it with modernity to extend our creative concepts”, they say. Their hope? To “encourage everyone to be true to their own style and show infinite possibilities”. It’s an ethos that chimes perfectly with the new-gen mood of playfulness and individuality, and given the sheer variety of styles that they’re creating and inspiring, they’re clearly doing something right.
