While the last few years have been clouded with darkness, Devin Halbal brought us sunshine. Using TikTok to chart her global adventures since June 2021, the 24-year-old digital creator has already amassed over half a million dedicated followers.
With her selfie stick and iconic catchphrases – “Doll check-in, doll check-in”, “Met Gala Behavior” and “Elevate, Activate, Appreciate” – Halbal has encouraged a generation of young people (particularly trans women) to travel, take care of themselves and appreciate the one life they have. Halbel’s career has flourished outside of TikTok too; already she has bylines at the likes of Refinery29 and Teen Vogue, and she has modelled for magazines such as W, Office and Rolling Stone.
As a proud Cancer, she feels everything: love for herself, others, and the world. She advocates for the LGBTQ+ community and desperately wants representation for trans people to change. “We haven’t seen trans women speak out on education outside transness or trans trauma,” Halbal told Dazed in her Autumn 2022 cover story. “We need more bitches like me in all types of spaces: art, history, publishing. So stay tuned, stay tuned!” We can’t wait to see the heights she’ll reach.
