The artist, filmmaker, game maker and writer whose work is an exercise in futuristic world building.
Benjamin Hall

Benjamin Hall is an artist, filmmaker, game maker and writer based between Glasgow and Liverpool. Hall’s work is an exercise in immersive storytelling, futuristic world building and archival adaptation using real-time game-engine technology.

A recent graduate of The Glasgow School of Art, where they studied painting and printmaking. Hall’s degree show was set to take place in 2020. With Covid-19 and lockdowns preventing a physical show, and in the absence of any alternatives offered, Hall teamed up with fellow students to stage the show online. Created in the game development software Unity Engine, the degree show was free to download and offered students a well-deserved chance to showcase their work, whether painting or video art.

Hall has also designed an exploration game set in the 80s, based on real-life cryptozoological sightings in their native Somerset, and, together with fellow Glasgow School of Art graduate Jay Darlington, created Wretched Light Industry, a collective virtual world building exercise with creatives all over the globe. Hall is also currently a programme technologist and a permanent staffer at art and technology centre FACT in Liverpool, and in 2022, was also selected for the Future Focus exhibition by Derby’s QUAD arts centre.
