The DJ running one of London's best underground club nights.
Basmati

If you were lucky enough to catch Basmati’s set at Dazed’s very own Paris Fashion Week party, chances are it’s been on your mind ever since. Since 2018, their trajectory has been pointed sharply upwards, becoming a resident DJ and then core member of PXSSY PALACE, the self-described, “Slaggy club nite for queer women, trans, non-binary and intersex BIPOC.”

They also co-run their own night, Cousins – cited as one of the best underground club nights in London by Mixmag and Vogue – which they started alongside DJ and BBC Asian Radio presenter, Manara. Just in case that wasn’t enough, they have also spoken to outlets such as Residential Advisor about their nightlife experiences as an QTIBPOC+ person and how to create safer spaces for members of the QTIBPOC+ community.

A born and bred north Londoner, Basmati brings the vibes and positivity wherever they go. “Who needs some rice, bitch? Who needs some energy?” The MC asks the crowd before Basmati blesses them with everything from an outrageous Spandau Ballet Baltimore house style remix to club staples like “Lady Hear Me Tonight” during their set at the FILTH X PXSSY PALACE Boiler Room, an hour of pure, unadulterated joy (and a lot of sweat).
